Employer Assisted Housing
With the high cost of housing in Massachusetts, employers are finding it difficult to attract and retain workers. Some companies have initiated employer assisted housing programs to meet the affordable housing needs of their workers. Some legislators have responded by proposing legislation to provide incentives for employer assisted housing.
Julie Connelly, Senior Vice President of Community Investments at Citizens Bank, will speak about the Bank's employer assisted housing program to help meet the affordable housing needs of its workers. Mary Tittmann, Chief of Staff for State Senator Jarrett T. Barrios, will describe and give an update about pending legislation to provide incentives for employer assisted housing programs. Senator Barrios, a lead sponsor of the legislation, will also give remarks.

Standards for the Granting of Variances: Developments in Case Law 2005
In 2005, Massachusetts courts weighed in strongly with respect to the granting of variances from the requirements of the Boston Zoning Code and similar municipal zoning by-laws. We will be hosting a group discussion of the tightening variance standard reflected in cases this year such as Van Buren v. South Boston New Housing and McGee v. Board of Appeal of Boston and the real estate communities’ reaction thereto.
