Trial Attorney Project: Pro Bono Training
The Trial Attorney Project, an expansion of the Lawyer for the Day Program at the Boston Housing Court, will offer opportunities for volunteer lawyers to gain invaluable courtroom experience through the representation of clients at jury-waived or jury summary process trials. Under this new program, landlords and tenants will benefit from the counsel of attorneys inside the courtroom. An unrepresented party in a case screened by the Volunteer Lawyers Project will be referred to a volunteer Trial Attorney only if the cases have viable claims or defenses, early trial dates can be set, the cases are likely to be tried in a single day, and the other parties are represented by counsel.
Volunteers will have the opportunity to make a real difference in a needy client’s life, while developing very practical and useful litigation and trial skills. All volunteers will be asked to attend the 2 ½ hour training on November 8, and agree to take at least one case.
