  • Administration of Justice Administration of Justice

    This section provides opportunities for inspired conversation with judges on issues critical to both bench and bar. Section members explore the real-world challenges of improving the legal system and administration of justice while also sharing ideas and perspectives with members of the judiciary through monthly meetings and programming.

  • Bankruptcy Law Bankruptcy Law

    The Bankruptcy Law Section allows solo and larger-firm practitioners from the consumer and business bankruptcy worlds to connect, share experiences and explore evolving legal issues. The section sponsors the popular Bankruptcy Bench Meets Bar Conference each spring and a variety of community service opportunities throughout the year.

  • Business Transactions Business Transactions

    The Business Transactions Section aims to build an environment where business practice thrives. Ideas and perspectives are shared across disciplines, as practitioners take an active role in assessing and enacting legislation impacting corporate, business and commercial concerns.

  • Civil Rights & Civil Liberties Civil Rights & Civil Liberties

    The Civil Rights & Civil Liberties Section is at the forefront of compelling legal issues impacting the field. Exploring the complexities of current legislative concerns, the section sponsors issue-specific programs, reviews legislative and regulatory proposals and seeks to advance the understanding of state and federal civil rights and civil liberties issues.

  • College & University College & University

    Attorneys and in-house counsel representing institutions of every size gather through the College & University Section. Monthly meetings allow section members to connect with peers and discuss pressing matters related to student affairs, labor and employment, regulatory issues, intellectual property, internal governance and tax issues.

  • Criminal Law Criminal Law

    Criminal Law Section members find opportunities not only to gain expertise alongside their peers, but also to connect with judges, clerks, probation officers and other court personnel. Educational programs analyze emerging issues and changes in state and federal criminal practice.

  • Delivery of Legal Services Delivery of Legal Services

    The Delivery of Legal Services Section focuses on improving access to legal services, with special attention to the challenges of middle- and low-income communities. Section members tap the ideas and expertise of peers and work to involve the private bar in efforts to identify and satisfy unmet needs.

  • Diversity & Inclusion Diversity & Inclusion

    The Diversity & Inclusion Section is committed to advancing diversity in the legal profession. The section promotes activities and programs consistent with Diversity Leadership Task Force recommendations and other diversity initiatives of the BBA through educational, outreach, mentoring and networking programs.

  • Environmental Law Environmental Law

    This vibrant community explores a wide range of issues in all substantive areas of environmental law. Section members also help shape environmental policy through a close working relationship with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection.

  • Family Law Family Law

    The Family Law Section is dedicated to maintaining relationships with the courts, peers and other parties invested in family law. Section members discuss current issues and problem areas, assist in efforts to improve law and procedures, and host educational programs to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of existing law.

  • Financial Services Financial Services

    Addressing a broad array of matters of interest to lawyers representing or regulating banks, insurance companies, investment advisers and other financial services businesses, including the planning, distribution and support of all financial services. The Section focuses on emerging issues, particularly prospective legislative and regulatory developments.

  • Health Law Health Law

    The Health Law Section's activities appeal to lawyers of all levels from corporate, litigation, white-collar, government and other backgrounds. Practitioners with a broad range of health-related interests and expertise find opportunities to meet with peers, legislators and regulators and explore pressing topical issues.

  • Immigration Immigration

    The Immigration Section draws enthusiastic, committed lawyers working in a wide range of legal environments and looking to expand their expertise on the complex, evolving issues confronting a successful immigration practice.

  • Intellectual Property Intellectual Property

    This section draws experienced IP lawyers, transactional attorneys and litigators in private practice, as well as in-house lawyers at businesses, educational and research institutions and government agencies. Discussions and programming cover all facets of IP law, including patents, trademarks, copyrights and trade secrets.

  • International Law International Law

    Through networking and programming, the International Law Section deals with both private and public international law, including U.S. and foreign aspects of international business transactions, taxation of foreign income, foreign investment laws, treaties and international organizations such as the United Nations.

  • Labor & Employment Law Labor & Employment Law

    Practitioners join the Labor & Employment Law Section to share and expand their expertise in the areas of labor and employment, labor-management relations and employment discrimination. The section also focuses on practices and procedures before state and federal agencies relating to labor in all cases arising from an employer-employee relationship.

  • Litigation Litigation

    The Litigation Section serves as a forum for training, discussion and exchanging ideas to improve advocacy and trial skills — all for the benefit of the individual and the profession as a whole. The section holds programs on substantive areas of civil law for in-house, government and private practitioners.

  • New Lawyers New Lawyers

    Passionate, dedicated practitioners of all ages come to the New Lawyers Section for support and education in their first decade of practice. Members represent every professional setting and every area of law.

  • Real Estate Real Estate

    The Real Estate section addresses a variety of areas of real estate law, from bankruptcy to zoning. Programs and discussions cover issues including land use, environmental concerns, development, financing and eminent domain matters.

  • Senior Lawyers Senior Lawyers

    The Senior Lawyers Section draws a diverse range of accomplished practitioners to explore professional topics and other subjects of interest.

  • Solo & Small Firm Solo & Small Firm

    Solo practitioners and members of firms with fewer than 10 lawyers come together in this section for Meet & Greet Lunches and a range of other networking opportunities. Programs focus on management, marketing and technology issues, and often feature a guest speaker with subject matter expertise.

  • Tax Tax

    The Tax Section offers a forum for exchanging ideas and information about tax law. Section members share their expertise to promote understanding of federal and state tax laws and regulations, and join in efforts to improve the laws and procedures for their implementation.

  • Tax-Exempt Organizations Tax-Exempt Organizations

    This section provides a forum for practitioners interested in the law of nonprofit organizations. Monthly lunch meetings cover featured education topics and allow members to exchange information and ideas about practice issues and developments. The section also initiates or participates in legislative and regulatory advocacy efforts, as appropriate.

  • Trusts & Estates Trusts & Estates

    This section covers a broad range of substantive legal topics and practice concerns of interest to trusts and estates lawyers at all experience levels. Monthly meetings focus on subjects including probate law, pre- and post-mortem estate planning considerations, drafting wills and trusts, estate and gift tax planning and more.
