Addressing joint bench-bar concerns

Donations Support "Access to Justice in Action"

It all started with a copy machine. When the volunteers with the BBA’s Lawyer for the Day in the Boston Housing Court program found themselves faced with a machine in disrepair, the BBA’s Real Estate Section and the Boston Bar Foundation worked together to establish the Herbert W. Vaughan Fund in 2009 to purchase new equipment and keep things running smoothly.

Sometimes, the simplest solutions can have a great impact. The BBA Lawyer for a Day in the Housing Court Program has helped over 15,000 people since it began – giving them advice they can’t afford and hope when things seem impossible. These are individuals who are facing the loss of their home or income while struggling to navigate an overburdened system that they don’t understand. The Lawyer for the Day Program is truly a lifeline.

Today, the Vaughan Fund provides essential funding to support the needs of the program volunteers through equipment, new technology, necessary supplies and training programs. Lawyer for the Day volunteer Katy Ward, Co-Chair of the Public Service Committee of the Real Estate Section says:

“The Lawyer for the Day Program is an essential program that provides access to justice for so many individuals who would otherwise be unrepresented. As a volunteer, I get to see first-hand the Program’s life-changing effects.  Without donations to the Vaughan Fund, the Lawyer for the Day Program would not be possible.”

Help us reach our goal of raising $5,000 for the Vaughan Fund this year.  Donate today, or learn more at bostonbarfoundation.org
