Welcome to the Business Transactions Section!

Monday, September 10, 2012

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in the Business Transactions Section of the BBA.  We are excited to offer a variety of timely, educational and relevant programming for the 2012-2013 program year.

Committee Activities. Our committees are focused on providing brown bag lunches, CLE programs and other avenues for discussion of topics ranging from securities law to commercial finance, and from mergers and acquisitions to energy/telecommunications and general corporate developments. Current listings for programming can be found under the Calendar tab on bostonbar.org.

Fall Programs – Among the programming already scheduled for Fall 2012 are the following:

  • September 25: A discussion of the recent changes proposed by the SEC to Rule 506 to allow general solicitation in private placements to accredited investors (Securities Law Committee and Corporate Law Committee).
  • September 25: A discussion of “An Act Relative to Competitively Priced Electricity in the Commonwealth.” Come hear key staff members of the House and Senate speak about the Commonwealth’s newest energy initiatives (Energy and Telecommunications Law Committee).
  • October 4: Where Can A Lawyer Safely Turn For Advice About a Client? The Attorney Client Privilege for Law Firm General Counsel (Co-sponsored with the Litigation Section).

We welcome and encourage suggestions from members for topics to be covered as part of future programming.

Public Policy – The Business Transactions Section also engages in review and commentary on matters of public policy and legislation concerning legal topics relevant to the business community in Boston and beyond. Please contact the co-chairs of the Section with any suggestions for areas for future commentary.

Membership – Our members range from brand new practitioners to seasoned veterans, and from lawyers with solo and small firm practices to large firm and in-house lawyers.  We welcome all members with an interest in the subject matter, wherever you practice and regardless of years of experience.

Steering Committee – Our Steering Committee meets on the second Wednesday of every month from 12:30 – 1:30 pm at the BBA’s offices at 16 Beacon Street, and all members of the Section are welcome to attend.  If you would like to get involved in the Section, please contact either Nicole Fitzpatrick (nifitzpa@akamai.com) or Megan Gates (mgates@mintz.com)

We hope to see you at an event soon.
