Saturday, May 4th marked the 40th Anniversary of the BBA’s Annual Workshop for Public Sector Labor Relations Specialists. More than 95 Attorneys, administrators, negotiators, and arbitrators from across the Commonwealth assembled at Harvard Law School to attend the workshop to hear from the expert panelists and honor long time event Co-Chair Peter Berry (Deutsch Williams Brooks DeRensis & Holland) -- who is stepping down after more than 10 years of co-chairing the workshop.
The panels, split into two groups, discussed current events and key issues in the Labor Relations Field. Panel 1 focused on administrative improvements and initiatives, specifically reviewing recent decisions and trends at the Commonwealth Employment Relations Board and the Department of Labor Relations. Panel 2 offered insight into arbitrators decision making processes and demonstrated effective advocacy skills by arguing hypotheticals before the arbitrators. Topics included Discipline Following a Violation of HIPAA Policy, Off-Duty Police Conduct, and Past Practice in the context of pay for educator/coaches.
And all this before noon! Sure beats sleeping in on a Saturday.
