From Beyond the Billable: BBA Volunteers Help Clean Up the Charles

This event ties in with the BBA’s Task Force on Environmental Sustainability, a group charged with expanding the BBA’s public service capacity to include volunteer opportunities that benefit the environment.

A few weeks back TSL highlighted a few environmental pro bono opportunities for lawyers that our friends at ACE (who run the Massachusetts Environmental Justice Assistance Network) organize. Not to be outdone, the BBA’s New Lawyers Section Pro Bono Committee has helped round up volunteers to participate in the upcoming 13th Annual Charles River Cleanup, held on April 21st. Family Law Section Hosts Law Student Study Breaks

BBA's Practical Skills Series Big Draw for New Lawyers

No Reason to Beware of Pro Bono

There is a well-known saying, "beware the Ides of March." March 15 this year was a memorable day for me because I had my first court appearance, but thankfully it was not a day for me to be afraid. Through the Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP), I represented a woman seeking guardianship of a child. VLP provided me the support to do so. Thanks to their guardianship training, guardianship clinics, language interpreter, and excellent staff attorneys, I was able to go to court prepared and confident -- even though it was my first court appearance. With VLP's resources at my disposal, I had nothing to "beware" on March 15.
