New Lawyers Section to Host Meeting to Discuss Proposed SJC Rule 3:16, 7/24

Thursday, July 19, 2012

The Supreme Judicial Court recently proposed SJC Rule 3:16, which would require newly-admitted Massachusetts attorneys to complete a “Practicing with Professionalism Course” within 18 months after admission to the Massachusetts bar.  The one-page Notice and two-page Proposed Rule (click here for Notice and Proposed Rule) leave many questions and potential issues open to discussion (e.g., what the course will cover, who will pay for the course, etc.).

The BBA needs the perspective of the New Lawyers Section in submitting comments to the SJC on the Proposed Rule.  We, as newer attorneys, are in a unique position to provide insight on this Proposed Rule that would affect newly-admitted Massachusetts attorneys for a long time to come.

In light of this, we are calling a Special Open Meeting of the BBA New Lawyers Section to discuss SJC Proposed Rule 3:16.  The meeting will be held at the BBA, 16 Beacon Street on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 5:30 pm.  Food and refreshments will be provided.

RSVP required, please click here.

The meeting is expected to last no more than one hour.  We strongly encourage you to attend in person; however, if you can only attend on the phone we will be offering a dial-in number.
We hope to see you on July 24th!  In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact Merritt (merritt.mcgowan@gmail.com) or Paul (pconnors@haslaw.com) with any questions.

Thanks,

Merritt & Paul
