Welcome to the Real Estate Section of the BBA!
The Real Estate Section strives to bring together BBA members who are interested in all aspects of real estate law and to share ideas and educate each other so we may better serve our clients, advocate for the under-represented, and help shape public policy. Our sub-sections include land use and development, affordable housing, real estate finance, leasing, title and conveyancing, public policy and legislation, and construction law. The Section supports the Lawyer for the Day project at the Housing Court and other pro-bono activities of the BBA
Our members are made up of lawyers of all levels of experience from firms of all sizes,, to government lawyers from the federal, state, city, quasi-state and local entities , and in-house counsels for developers and non-profit groups. We particularly strive to reach out to solo practitioners, new lawyers, and law students on our programs and updates.
We offer two types of programs; Brown-Bag lunches offered by our sub-Committees and Continuing Legal Education seminars. The calendar for September already shows a few Brown Bag lunches including a discussion with DHCD on tax credits under the Community Development Partnership Act and a second on the implications of the SJC’s ruling in Garrity vs. Conservation Commission of Hingham.
On October 2nd we will host our fall kick-off event with a CLE on practicing before the Land Court featuring the Honorable Robert Foster, formerly a long standing member of the Real Estate Section and a panel of lawyers who will share their experiences in Land Court litigation. We’ll also hear the Chief Title Examiner talk about the challenges of handling registered land. Even if you can’t make the CLE, please be sure to put the social reception that follows on your calendar. All upcoming Real Estate Section events can be viewed on the BBA’s website.
We hope you will join us this year by attending our events and signing up to receive our updates.
Sincerely, Renee LeFevre and Kathleen O’Donnell
