Originally written by David Donaldson and Carolyn Osteen of Ropes & Gray, The Harvard Manual on Tax Aspects of Charitable Giving provides an in-depth look at the technical aspects of planned giving. The Manual is intended for practicing attorneys, accountants, and other professional tax counsel. It has also proven useful to individuals who are philanthropic and/or have some familiarity with the tax law related to charitable contributions. The most recent edition is the ninth edition, which was published in 2011 and edited by Carolyn Osteen and Martin Hall of Ropes & Gray.

Program Materials: 5/3 Appeals - The IRS Perspective

On May 3, the Tax Section hosted a symposium featuring Christopher Wagner, IRS Chief, Appeals, and Sheldon Kay, IRS Deputy Chief, Appeals, who traveled from Washington, D.C. to offer their perspectives on Appeals’ practices for resolving tax controversies, without litigation, fairly and impartially for both taxpayers and the government. Gerald Ouellette, an Appeals Team Case Leader and Mediator from Boston, joined them for a discussion of appeals practices in general and recent ADR initiatives in particular.
