The BBA’s Summer Jobs committee, led by Co-Chairs Ned Notis-McConarty (Hemenway & Barnes) and Jeff Mittleman (Holland & Knight) is hard at work recruiting law firms, government agencies and in house law departments to provide summer jobs for Boston Public High School Students. The Committee is off to a great start, already getting 26 commitments to help underserved youth earn money, learn about the legal profession through on the job experience, and help expand the diversity & inclusion pipeline of the legal profession. BBA Week caught up with Ned and Jeff to see why they decided to lead the committee this year:
Ned: I am excited to continue serving as the co-chair of the Summer Jobs Committee because I believe in the impact of the program on the lives of the students and the firms. The program offers Boston Public School students an opportunity to gain professional skills and exposure to the legal field. Additionally, the participating law firms are able give back to the community and develop the future workforce of the legal field.
Jeff: This is my third year on the BBA Summer Jobs Committee and first year as a co-chair. One of the primary obligations a lawyer has is to give back to the community, and that’s exactly what this program does. The BBA Summer Jobs Program provides young people the opportunity to work in a professional environment and learn about the law. The BBA Summer Jobs Program is a partnership of the BBA, the Boston Private Industry Council, and the Boston Public Schools and is run in part by the support of the M. Ellen Carpenter Fund and the Austin Jones Fund of the Boston Bar Foundation.
