On December 16, the Tax Section hosted the CLE program Nuts and Bolts of Federal & State Tax Law: An Intro to Tax Practice for General Practitioners, Tax Lawyers and Pro Bono Counsel. This program was designed to familiarize attorneys with tax issues faced by low-wage families with tax controversies, however, the core principles discussed equally apply to higher income taxpayers and small business. The panel placed emphasis on collection options and defenses, particularly with regard to the IRS and DOR collection process. The panel also analyzed hypothetical situations based on actual cases, for additional and practical advice.
