When Tenure Cases Go Awry: Catalysts, Circumstances and Case Law

Wednesday, April 10, 2013 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

Felix Springer is a trial attorney at Day Pitney, LLC. In the course of his career, he has defended over three dozen tenure cases and tried four to verdict. The colleges and universities he has represented in tenure matters include Yale, Wesleyan, Amherst, Smith, Trinity, Connecticut College, Rensselaer at Hartford and the Universities of Hartford, New Haven and Bridgeport.
Felix will review and analyze recurrent themes in tenure cases gone awry, the principal catalysts for claims by unsuccessful candidates, circumstances that should raise red flags, effective preventive measures and the learning available from current case law. He will also discuss one of his recent cases involving a denial of tenure based on colleagueship and the lessons from that matter.
