Electronic Waste: Legislation, Disposal Impacts, and What’s the Debate?

Tuesday, June 12, 2012 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

Electronic waste is growing 2-3 times faster than any other waste stream.  Americans buy about 500 million new computers, TVs, phones, and other electronics each year.  Only a minor percentage are recycled. The impacts on municipalities of e-waste recycling and disposal are costly, and improper disposal poses environmental and health risks. A “producer take back” bill is pending in the Mass. legislature.  25 Other states have e-waste laws.  Some retailers and manufacturers object to the Mass. bill.  Come learn about the issues, what other states have done, why some argue for federal regulation on this, and what’s happening in Massachusetts.
