Lawyers Who Write Fiction

Tuesday, November 6, 2012 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

In the great tradition of such Boston lawyer-novelists as George Higgins (“The Friends of Eddie Coyle”), Barry Reed (“The Verdict”) and  Alan Trustman (“The Thomas Crown Affair”), Boston lawyers continue to straddle two careers, practicing law and writing fiction.  On Tuesday, November 6 the Senior Lawyers Section will present four best-selling novelists, who will talk about what motivated them to begin, what they have written, and what is coming next.

Our panel consists of Board of Bar Overseers General Counsel Michael Fredrickson, Goodwin Procter partner R. David Hosp, Bingham McCutchen partner Sabin Willett, and criminal defense lawyer Raffi Yessayan.  Fredrickson has published three novels, “A Cinderella Affidavit,” “Witness for the Dead,” and “A Defense for the Dead.”  Hosp, a trial lawyer specializing in intellectual property, has written six novels – “Dark Harbor,” “The Betrayed,” “Innocence,” “Among Thieves,” “Next of Kin,” and “The Guardian.”  Willett, a trial lawyer specializing in commercial and bankruptcy cases, and leader of Bingham’s team representing Guantanamo prisoners, is the author of “The Deal,” “The Betrayal,” and “Present Value.”  His new novel, “Abide With Me,” will be published by Simon & Schuster in March.  Yessayan, former chief of the Gang Unit in the Suffolk County DA 's Office and now in private practice in Quincy, has published two novels, “2 In the Hat” and “8 in the Box.”
