The 14th Annual Walk to the Hill for Civil Legal Aid to take place this
January will be a critically important opportunity for lawyers to advocate for
civil legal aid for low-income people. It is historically one of the largest
lobbying events at the Massachusetts State House and is now an especially vital
event as the number of individuals and families eligible for civil legal aid has
increased by 13%, or 112,000 in the past two years.
This year MLAC will be requesting $15.5 million for legal services, a $3.5
million increase over last year's budget. The money will avoid further layoffs
and service cuts that would force programs to turn away even more residents who
need legal help. Please join us at the State House and show your support for
civil legal aid. For the latest information check out the Equal Justice
Coalition's Fact Sheet
and take a look at some of the Talking
Points in preparation for the event.
