The Boston Bar Association’s Workshop for Public
Sector Labor Relations Specialists turns 40 this year!
Join the BBA at Harvard Law School for this
intensive workshop for Public Sector Labor Relations professionals. This annual
program will familiarize labor relations practitioners with current trends in
collective bargaining and other issues affecting public employees.

Panel I will discuss recent initiatives at the
Department of Labor Relations initiatives aimed at reducing backlog and
assisting parties to settle their disputes without litigation. The
agency also has adopted a new scheduling procedure, as well as a new
unilateral settlement procedure. The panel will address these initiatives, as
well as others, in detail.
Marjorie Wittner, Chair of the Common-wealth
Employment Relations Board, will discuss recent trends in the types of charges
filed at the agency. In addition, recent decisions of the agency will be
reviewed. There will also be a presentation concerning trends in cases at the
Joint Labor Management Commission.
For Panel II, arbitrators will
consider arguments on case fact patterns presented by attorneys representing
management and unions and will make rulings in the "red light/green light"
format. The arbitrators will discuss the differing analysis each uses to resolve
various legal arguments and the thought process each goes through to arrive at
his/her final decision.
