EPA's Proposed CO2 Performance Standards for New Power Plants

Monday, December 2, 2013 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

On September 20, 2013, EPA issued its long-awaited proposal for carbon dioxide pollution standards for new power plants.  This draft rule replaces the regulations that EPA put forward in April 2012 and which are now being rescinded.  The proposed new source performance standards would be the first uniform national limits on carbon emissions from future power plants.

The speakers at this brown bag will review the fundamental elements of the proposed standards, including:
• The scope of fossil fuel-fired electric generating units subject to the rule.
• Different standards for small v. large natural gas-fired stationary combustion turbines, fossil fuel-fired utility boilers and integrated gasification combined cycle units.
• Consideration of carbon capture and storage and natural gas combined cycle technology in EPA's determination of "best systems of emission reduction."

Please note: this program was originally scheduled for 10/7.
