Filling the GAAPs

Tuesday, October 8, 2013 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

Description:

Financial statements are complicated.  In fact, sometimes they can be anything but transparent.  Users of financial statements, including investors, creditors, government agencies, customers and competitors, are in search of financial information that is clear.  While US GAAP standards have been developed to ensure uniform reporting of financial results, there can be significant differences between stated values and economic values.  So how do users of financial statements fill in the "GAAPs" and understand what GAAP is and is not, so that they can answer their questions?  How do users of financial statements determine the true financial condition and value of a company?  What line items should be questioned? This session will look at real life case examples of unreported and under-reported liabilities and overstated assets in GAAP-compliant financial statements.
