Watching the Clock: The Result of A.B.T. et al v. USCIS, et al. and Other New Timing Concerns for Asylum Seekers

Tuesday, September 16, 2014 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

Description:

Timing is everything for a successful asylum claim.  Attorneys representing asylum seekers are very aware of the deadlines involved, but also the passage of time from the onset of a case to ensure a client is eligible for work authorization during the pendency of an asylum claim.

Recently, A.B.T. et al v. USCIS, et al. addressed concerns with respect to when the clock begins for purposes of work authorization.  Our speaker, Iris Gomez, was integrally involved in this class action lawsuit and its outcome.  She will provide some background on why this case is so important to an asylee’s ability to work and live during the pendency of his or her claim, and what it means for practicing attorneys going forward.
