Medical Marijuana and the Rules of Professional Conduct: May an Attorney Ethically Represent a Marijuana Client in a Non-Criminal Context
Thursday, June 5, 2014
12:30 PM to 1:30 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA
The implementation of medical marijuana laws in 20 states and the District
of Columbia, despite the federal prohibition against marijuana sales and use,
has given rise to a host of legal issues facing a range of stakeholders in this
emerging industry. One such issue for attorneys is whether or not they may
ethically represent medical marijuana-related clients given current federal
statutes. This program will analyze the relevant Massachusetts Rules of
Professional Conduct in the context of such representation, and look to
solutions proposed by other state Bar organizations.
