Mixed-Income Housing: (Re)Assessing the Policy and Practice of the Mixed-Income Approach to Provision of Low-Income Housing

Tuesday, September 24, 2013 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

Affordable housing practitioners, policymakers and planners have generally supported the theory of mixed-income housing as a strategy to develop successful low-income housing projects. As a number of these neighborhoods have now been developed and in operations for a length of time an important question to ask is - do mixed-income developments achieve the social goals of reducing negative behavior, improving local services, enhancing social control, and developing social capital? In this brownbag panel, we look at the theory of how mixed-income tenancy can help lift families out of poverty and how these neighborhoods actually have been operating from a social and management point of view.

Please join us at the first BBA Affordable Housing brownbag for the program year as we hear from a panel of academic experts the results of current research and lead a policy discussion and debate about this important topic.
