CLE - 41st Annual Workshop for Public Sector Labor Relations Specialists

Join the BBA at Harvard Law School for this intensive workshop for Public Sector Labor Relations professionals. This annual program will familiarize labor relations practitioners with current trends in collective bargaining and other issues affecting public employees.

This year the workshop will be located in Harvard Law School’s Austin Hall; Austin 101 Classroom East

While walk-ins are welcome, you must register before May 1, 2014, to receive free parking.

  • Significant Labor Law Decisions of the Supreme Judicial Court and the Appeals Court

  • The Department of Labor Relations: Your One-Stop Labor Relations Agency 
    The panel will begin by updating practitioners on recent case law, procedural changes and other initiatives at the DLR.  The panel will then describe how the 2007 consolidation prompted the DLR to become a more effective and efficient “one-stop labor relations agency” by changing services it previously provided. The panel will conclude by discussing and offering its insight to practitioners as to how they may best utilize the DLR’s services in addressing a variety of  labor relations issues.

  • Pick Your Poison; Mediation, Arbitration and Factfinding
    This panel will explore the various methods of contract resolution offered to public employee unions – what works and what doesn’t – and how to best utilize these resources.  Allan Drachman, a veteran labor practioner and arbitrator, will provide a historical overview of these contract resolution mechanisms and how they have changed over the years.  Arbitrator Timothy Buckalew and Attorney Susan Horwitz will discuss their experience in the Boston Police Interest Arbitration Proceedings and in other mediation and arbitration proceedings.
