The Promise and Peril of "Big Data"

Monday, January 27, 2014 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

This program aims to raise the bar's awareness of so-called Big Data.  What is Big Data?  Who collects it?  Who uses it?  What can individuals do to limit or control the use of their personal data?  These are just some of the questions emerging as data becomes an increasingly valuable commodity.  Our panelists will encourage us to think about whether current legal constructs (e.g., notions of privacy and liberty) are adequate to confront Big Data issues, or whether new constructs need to be developed.  We will also explore the potential benefits of using Big Data to address social problems.
