Different Strokes: Alternative Fees and Alternative Relationships Between In-house and Outside Counsel

Wednesday, February 15, 2017 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

Description:

Corporate legal departments come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. Many in-house practitioners are generalists who rely heavily on outside counsel to independently handle a variety of matters. Some are specialists who may work side-by-side with outside counsel in the trenches. Some legal departments prefer certainty in their legal spend; others prefer the best value even where that means less predictability. As in-house counsel, how can we best communicate the unique aspects of our legal culture to enhance our working relationship with outside counsel? And on a practical level, are there alternative fee structures that best fit companies with particular risk or size profiles?

During our panel discussion, you will hear from seasoned intellectual property lawyers on their models in litigation and counseling matters.  These arrangements will be of great interest both to generalists as well as to IP lawyers and those responsible for managing IP matters in-house. All will benefit from the perspectives our panelists bring on ways to craft creative relationships between in-house and outside counsel.
