CLE - Employee Classification in the Modern Economy

Monday, October 16, 2017 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

Whether a worker is an employee or independent contractor under the law is a critical inquiry not only for the worker, but also for businesses and government enforcement agencies alike.  The inquiry can have significant implications on wages, benefits, unionization rights, safety and health compliance and numerous other facets of the relationship between the worker and a company for which she works.  Misclassification is becomingly an increasingly important issue in enforcement actions and private litigation across the country.  In this program, panelists from an array of federal and state enforcement agencies, and from class action and defense firms will explore a variety of different legal contexts in which misclassification arises, as well the underlying policy issues that may affect future legislation.
