Immigration "Know Your Rights" - Training for Volunteer Attorneys

Monday, April 24, 2017 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

Description:

This program will explain to attorneys what an immigrant’s constitutional rights are when confronted by law enforcement, including immigration and customs enforcement officials and what to expect in immigration court. The training will focus on whether these rights are affected by the person’s immigration status. The session will begin with an overview of the immigration Executive Orders and recent Department of Homeland Security memos and provide information on resources available to assist immigrants. The speakers will also discuss the history and importance of community “Know Your Rights” (KYR) workshops and the logistics of signing up to present in the community.

After attending this seminar, attorneys will be able to sign up through the PAIR Project to lead community Know Your Rights workshops in the Greater Boston area. Attorneys from all pratice areas and settings are able to attend this training and volunteer through PAIR. Law students may attend this training, but may only conduct Know Your Rights workshops under supervision of a professor or law school clinical program. The time commitment for leading a KYR workshop is 1-hour plus travel time.
