Trusts & Estates Section Mid-Year Review

An annual event not to be missed, the Trusts and Estates Section Mid-Year Review covers recent federal and state case law, legislation and tax law matters. This year’s Mid-Year review will touch on….

  • The New Developments subcommittee will review the Ajemian v. Yahoo!, Inc. Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts case as well as cover other recent cases involving breach of fiduciary duty, lack of capacity, undue influence, and tortious interference with expectancy. 
  • The New Developments Committee will also provide more details about the new Massachusetts Fiduciary Litigation Session. 
  • The Public Policy subcommittee will provide a survey of bills currently filed in the Massachusetts legislature that may affect the Trusts & Estates Bar, with a special focus on a proposed bill pertaining to access to digital assets (RUFADAA).
  • Tax Law Update subcommittee will review the estate and gift tax provisions and other highlights of the new federal tax law.  In addition, the Tax Law Update subcommittee will review the recent Estate of Sower case and other recent portability applications as well as recent cases involving estates and bankruptcy proceedings, tax implications of trust modifications, and more.
