Discovery of fraud within a nonprofit organization creates multiple challenges - among them: How best to investigate?  How best to respond? and What steps can be taken to remediate the underlying causes?  Topics covered will include:

  • General profile of individual(s) involved in fraud at NFP’s
  • Why the schemes go undetected
  • How they are discovered and steps to take in response to discovery
  • Board and Staff roles and responsibilities
  • Disclosure to state and federal agencies and other stake holders
  • Completing investigation and making follow-up recommendations
  • Monitoring newly implemented internal controls and reporting to senior management, the board, and outside agencies
