The Story of Re-Entry - Bruce Western's New Book Homeward: Life in the Year After Prison & The Policy Implications

Wednesday, June 20, 2018 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

Description:

Sociologist Bruce Western’s new book tells the stories of the men and women he met through the Boston Reentry Study as they left prison for neighborhoods around Boston. In trying to find out what happens when people return to the community and better understand the challenges they and their families face – with housing, work, addictions and mental illness – Western bore witness to the lives held captive in America’s experiment with mass incarceration.

This event will feature panel discussions with the author, men and women from his study, Suffolk County Sheriff Steve Tompkins and other justice leaders.

This program is in partnership with the Columbia University Justice Lab and free and open to all.
