Rapport with Reporters

Monday, October 29, 2018 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

Description:

Attorneys make news every day – and not just the Gloria Allreds or Michael Avenattis of the world.

Your practice, whether it concerns a disputed litigation, a commercial transaction, or the resolution of a client’s difficulty, often involves “newsworthy” stories of public interest. You don’t need an in-house public relations team to get quoted in the paper. All you need is an understanding of how legal reporters do their jobs and how to build a relationship with them.

  • Two experienced legal reporters from the Globe and the Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly will share their insights on what works – and what doesn’t work -- when dealing with the fourth estate. Topics may include: What are the most successful strategies to get optimal coverage for your client or your firm?
  • What do you need to do to become a “go to” source for a reporter?
  • How do you “pitch” a story to a reporter?
  • What makes for a good press release and what should you avoid like the plague?
  • How should you handle requests for interviews?
  • What are the most common lawyer-media mistakes to avoid?
