Description:

This session will provide an overview of recent changes to the Federal Policy for the Protection of Human Subjects (Common Rule) and the National Science Foundation’s (NSF) new anti-harassment policy.

On the Common Rule, topics will include regulatory changes in the areas of informed consent, continuing review, exemptions, and requirements for a single Institutional Review Board (IRB) of Record for multi-site research. The compliance date for most of the Common Rule changes is January 21, 2019 (January 20, 2020 for the single IRB requirement).

Panelists will also discuss the NSF’s new anti-harassment policy and challenges in developing internal protocols to address the policy’s requirement to report to the NSF findings of sexual harassment, other forms of harassment, and sexual assault by principal and co-principal investigators.
