Friday, May 3, 2019 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

This program will focus on how to use state and federal consumer protection law to help consumers in debt collection cases.  The program will cover common defenses to debt collection suits, and how to properly assert those defenses in the District Court and Small Claims Session. The program will also discuss counterclaims that consumers can assert against creditors, debt buyers, and debt collectors.  Finally, the panelists will describe how to issue-spot for affirmative claims under state and federal consumer protection statutes and common law. The panelists bring perspectives from the worlds of both private practice and legal services, and will share best practice tips for representing consumers in debt collection cases.
