Friday, April 26, 2019 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

Before you can register to attend this event, you must log into the Boston Bar web site.

Description:

This Friday Fundamental will address the aspects of a case to consider when formulating a plan for a deposition and how to properly execute that plan without being “wedded” to a script.  The program will also discuss the procedures of depositions, strategies on how to elicit information from difficult deponents and handle emotionally difficult topics.

The panelists will cover:

  • Time the deposition to coordinate with the rest of discovery;
  • Focus a deposition on the “meat” of the case;
  • Determine the most effective tone to use when questioning a deponent;
  • Effectively respond to a deponent’s responses and modify the plan when appropriate;
  • Appropriately Use/Defend Objections;
  • Conduct an efficient deposition of a difficult deponent;
  • Appropriately memorialize material/relevant non-verbal evidence on the record.

"Friday Fundamentals” is the BBA’s weekly educational series designed to offer an introduction to the basic legal skills and fundamental knowledge lawyers need to get a foothold and grow in their understanding of a given area of practice. Click here to view a full list of the BBA’s upcoming Fundamentals programs.
