Post-Conviction Relief for Survivors of Human Trafficking: Overview of New Massachusetts Law

Friday, March 29, 2019 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

Description:

This program will provide an overview of a new Massachusetts law designed to enable survivors of human trafficking to vacate Massachusetts criminal convictions related to their trafficking.  The panelists will focus on the purpose and history of the law, the specific mechanics of the law, and eligibility for relief.  The event will be informative for lawyers and non-lawyers alike, and is targeted to anyone who may work with survivors of human trafficking.

You'll learn immediate action steps service providers can take in raising awareness of the new law and identifying survivors who may be eligible, as well as opportunities to become involved in other legislative initiatives to support survivors.  As awareness of this new law grows, the Human Trafficking Sub-Committee will also work with those interested in serving as pro bono counsel to represent survivors in seeking relief under the law.
