A Conversation with NYT Deputy General Counsel David McCraw

Thursday, May 16, 2019 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

Description:

The BBA is pleased to welcome David E. McCraw to discuss his work as Deputy General Counsel at The New York Times and his recent book Truth in Our Times: Inside the Fight for Press Freedom in the Age of Alternative Facts. Since 2002, McCraw has guided the Times on what news is “fit to print,” defending it against libel suits and representing reporters breaking some of the biggest stories of the past 15 years, from Chelsea Manning’s leaks to Donald Trump’s tax returns. In conversation with BBA President Jonathan Albano, McCraw will address the role of the First Amendment and examine the question whether the constitutional protections of a free press are enough in an era when public trust in the media is faltering.

McCraw is a Lecturer on Law for the Spring 2019 semester at Harvard Law School.

Conversation and Q&A: 5:30pm - 7:00pm. Reception to follow. Copies of Truth in Our Times will be made available to purchase by the publisher.

The program is free and open to all.

This program is made possible in part by the Boston Bar Foundation's Policy Research and Innovation Fund.
