The New and Revised Rules for Civil Practitioners in Superior Court: A View from the Bench

Tuesday, October 22, 2019 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

Important amendments to Superior Court Rules 9A, 9C, 9D, 20, and 73, and Standing Order 1-88F provide new options for civil practitioners and fundamentally change many procedural requirements in the Superior Court. Our panel of four Superior Court Judges will discuss the following new rules and initiatives:

  • Superior Court Rule 20 – Tailor your case management through individual case management and tracking. Learn how you can streamline litigation through jury-waived trials, judicial settlement conferences and a wide variety of litigation options.
  • Superior Court Standing Order 1-88F – Attorneys with cases involving real estate, construction, products liability and employment discrimination are required to participate in the pilot program for case management conferences.
  • Amendments to Superior Court Rules 9A - Amendments to Rule 9A dramatically alter Rule 9A. Understand how the many amendments to Rule 9A affect civil motion practice in order to ensure your compliance.
  • Superior Court Rule 9C – Understand how the amended rule extends Rule 9C’s “confer and report” requirements to dispositive motions.
  • Superior Court Rule 9D – Hear about the new provisions relating to motions to reconsider.
  • Superior Court Rule 73 – Learn how the new rule overhauls procedures for medical malpractice actions.

This program is highly recommended for civil practitioners who appear in the Superior Court. Learn the fine print on recent amendments to the rules and benefit from best practice tips from our distinguished panel of Superior Court Judges.
