Protecting Girls’ Bodies in Massachusetts

Wednesday, September 25, 2019 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

To register for this event, please log in to the Boston Bar web site.

Massachusetts is often seen as being progressive. Yet it is behind a majority of other states in protecting girls’ bodies against certain, gender-specific harms, while on the other hand, many localities regulate girls’ appearance in schools in ways that seemingly restrict girls’ bodies.

Please join Rep. Kay Khan, who has sponsored legislation to raise the legal age of marriage in Massachusetts, City Councilor Lydia Edwards, who has actively worked on issues involving unfair restrictions on girls’ appearance in Boston schools, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, who supports legislation banning female genital mutilation, and Mehreen Butt, Assoc. Director of Policy for Planned Parenthood, which is advocating the elimination of the parental consent for abortion laws through passage of the ROE Act, will provide information on these issues in Massachusetts, including pending legislation.

This program is free and open to all!
