Volunteer with the Boston Debate League

Saturday, October 12, 2019 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM
Suffolk University - 8 Ashburton Pl, Boston, MA

Description:

On Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Suffolk University, the BBA Senior Associates Forum is partnering with the Boston Debate League ("BDL") to judge the first BDL middle school debate tournament of the 2019-2020 season. BDL's after-school debate league provides students in Boston Public Schools with the opportunity to practice critical thinking, reading and language skills through debate on government policies, the economy, philosophy and everything in between. Students participate in BDL debate competitions year-round, and volunteer judges are often in high demand. Many of the student competitors are interested in pursuing a career in law, so they truly appreciate interacting with and receiving feedback from judges who are attorneys.

Prior debate experience is not required to judge BDL competitions.

We are looking for attorneys to volunteer as judges during the tournament on October 12. Mandatory judge training begins at 8am and the competition starts around 9:00am. The tournament will likely include three rounds of debate, and will end around 2:30pm. BDL provides breakfast and lunch. For more information, please contact the Public Service Committee co-chairs: Chaloea Williams (chaloea.m.williams@gmail.com) and Jean-Phillip Brignol (jean-phillip.brignol@hklaw.com).
