On December 17, 2010, President Barack Obama signed into law the “Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010.” In addition to extending the Bush-era income tax cuts, the new law also makes major changes to the estate, gift, and generation skipping transfer (“GST”) taxes.

Join us to discuss the implications for decedents who died in 2010 and for the changes beginning in 2011. Some of the major issues that will be addressed are: special 2010 estate tax elections and extended deadlines, the reunification of the estate and gift tax, the impact on the GST tax, and the portability of the deceased spousal unused exempt amount. The panelists will also discuss planning opportunities made possible under the new law.

Specific Topics:

  • Special 2010 estate tax elections and extended deadlines
  • Reunification of estate and gift tax
  • Impact on the GST tax
  • Portability of deceased spousal unused exempt amount
  • New planning opportunities
