Establishing a Healthy Pro Bono Practice

Thursday, January 27, 2011 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

Description:

Come join the New Lawyers section for a discussion on the importance of cultivating a healthy pro bono practice as a young attorney. As a young lawyer, the prospect of "taking a case" or representing an actual client in court can seem daunting. However, pro bono work often proves to be a young lawyer's greatest opportunity to expand their practical legal knowledge and, furthermore, is essential to the reputation and vitality of our profession.

Panelists Alexandra Gorman of Skadden, Arps and Edward Zacharias of McDermott Will & Emery, who have demonstrated their commitment to pro bono over the years both through the BBA and their employers, will briefly describe their respective pro bono practices and the methods they employed early in their careers to seek out and succeed in their endeavors. We will then open the floor to questions. Attendees should feel free to query the panelists regarding how a young attorney can seek out pro bono opportunities, what types of opportunities are available, non-traditional avenues a young attorney can pursue to broaden his or her pro bono/public interest experience, or any other related area of interest.
