The State of the Commonwealth's Courts

Thursday, April 12, 2012 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Boston Bar Association - 16 Beacon Street, Boston, MA

Description:

Diminished funding and a staff hiring freeze (now in its fourth year) continue to burden the delivery of justice in the Commonwealth.  In the February 28, 2012 “Justice in the Balance” report, court leaders stated unequivocally:

We have reached the point where we can no longer provide quality services to the 42,000 people who arrive at our courthouses daily to resolve a wide range of criminal and civil matters.

Hear from distinguished jurists about the unprecedented challenges Massachusetts courts are facing with regard to the administration of justice.  Panelists include:  Justice Botsford of the Supreme Judicial Court, Chief Justice Rapoza of the Appeals Court, Chief Justice Mulligan of the Office for Administration and Management, Chief Justice Rouse of the Superior Court, Chief Justice Carey of the Probate and Family Court, Chief Justice Pierce of the Housing Court, Chief Justice Scheier of the Land Court, and Chief Justice Johnson of the Boston Municipal Court.  Q&A session and reception to follow.
