VITA Training at Suffolk University

Saturday, January 21, 2012 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM
Suffolk University - Sawyer Building, 5th Floor Computer Lab, 8 Ashburton Place, Boston, MA

Description:

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) offers free tax help to low-income-to-moderate income persons.  Volunteers assist in filling out tax returns, and offer consultations on special credits, such as Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit.  The program is coordinated locally by the Boston Earned Income Tax Coalition.

New volunteers are encouraged to attend this training, where they will be oriented to the program and learn basic tax law as well as get trained to use TaxWise, the tax preparation software provided by the IRS.  After this training, volunteers will be eligible to take the IRS’s certification exam, either on their own or at one of the Testing and Certification sessions.

This is an accelerated training for volunteers from the BBA.  Law students are encouraged to attend the training.  Please note that due to space, the training will be limited to 30 volunteers.
